You may remember a year ago when I shared with you all the story of Courtney and Devon’s nine-year journey to get to their wedding day, only to have it replaced with a micro-wedding (thanks Covid) and then, OF COURSE, it rained the entire day. The day of their big wedding in St. Augustine ceremony finally arrived and it was absolutely perfect – even the weather decided to cooperate this time around..for the most part.
When I arrived at Anastasia State Park, Devon told me “I’m not going to cry this time” and honestly, he lied. Let me be clear, that it was a lie. As soon as Courtney walked down the aisle the tears began to flow freely and beautifully. The ceremony only got more touching from there. The vows these two exchanged were so heartful that I could audibly hear sobbing throughout the audience and it was one of the most touching moments I’ve witnessed at a wedding. Their beautiful love story starts by meeting at Pita Pit and never leaving each other’s side after that moment. These two never fail to get the emotions running high when it comes to the love they have for each other, and I hope it’s something they keep for always.
After the ceremony, the rain started to threaten a bit more forcefully so we hopped in the car and made our way into St Augustine so we could capture photos downtown. As usual, the bride and groom were absolute rockstars. No sooner did we wrap up bridal portraits and closed the car door did the skies open and rain poured down. It was then that I asked them if they wouldn’t mind risking getting wet for an “under the umbrella rain shot” I was conjuring up during the reception. Boy, I’m sure glad they said yes!
It’s interesting. After their micro wedding last year, my reaction was the day was perfectly imperfect. Because it was. And that’s exactly what their wedding in St. Augustine was, perfectly imperfect. Perfectly imperfect overcast sky for an outdoor beach ceremony. Perfectly imperfect time for portraits and perfectly imperfect rain to create a stunning backlit photo of the bride and groom. Perfectly imperfect describes their storybook love story. I’m just thankful to be the one to help document it.
The reception was filled with so much love and laughter that no one wanted it to end. The dance floor was poppin’ and I’m sure downtown St. Augustine was crazy as the guests continued the party afterward!
Thank you Courtney and Devon for trusting me (again) to document your wedding in St. Augustine. I can’t think of two people more deserving of such a spectacular day.
