As a wedding photographer, I often get asked questions like “What advice would you give someone getting married?” or “What are the most memorable weddings you have ever photographed?” What I find interesting is that the answer to both questions is the same. I’ve photographed nearly a hundred weddings, and the happiest weddings – and the most memorable – were the weddings where the bride and groom really infused their personalities, likes, and interests into their big day.
It can be so easy to get caught up in creating something beautiful, that a couple forgets to create something unique to them. That was not the case for Skyler and Sasha’s Camp Weed Wedding. Not only were so many parts of their wedding day visually breathtaking (a photographer’s dream!) but also infused with the story of their relationship, their friend circle, and their love for all things Tolkien. I mean Frodo delivered his sword to cut their Lord of the Rings wedding cake!
Thanks to the help of Skyler’s aunt and mom, they found an amazing venue and an award-winning photographer – ahem, me :). The church at their Camp Weed wedding was unbelievably beautiful with the dreamiest light filtering through the windows and skylights. Skyler and Sasha met because they both love music. Not only do they both play professionally but many of their friends do as well. So it was only fitting that their wedding ceremony and reception were accompanied by their talented friends, playing the violin, cello and harp.
But I have to say, even the church couldn’t compete with Skyler’s dad seeing her in her wedding gown for the first time. It was hands down, one of the most heartfelt moments of the day. I’d be remiss if I also didn’t mention one of the most BOMB coordinators I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, Amy Smith, with Imperial Productions. Not only did she keep the day running smoothly she even found time to help me ensure their portraits were perfect! Thanks, Amy, for tossing the veil ( 2 or 7 times ha) and scouting the perfect locations with me!
Thank you Skyler and Sasha for trusting me to document your big day. Your Camp Weed wedding was as unique and beautiful as both of you!
