One of the things I pride myself on as a wedding photographer is getting to really know my clients and developing a relationship with them before their big day. I firmly believe that your wedding day should be a reflection of who you are as a couple in every way and that includes the photography. I adore couples who feel the same way and Monica and Kerry are a perfect example of that. When I first met them at their engagement session we had an immediate connection. I may have even Kerry a nickname! When I first met him he reminded me of someone that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. When I realized it was Tiki Barber, I started calling him Tiki. The nickname may have stuck and I wound up calling him Tiki throughout his wedding day – and the best part? HE EVEN ANSWERED ME! That’s how you know you have a winning groom. Now, even Monica calls him Tiki around me.

Aside from fun pet names, another way I like to connect with my wedding couples is by getting to know their story. After all, it plays such an important part in their wedding day. Two of my favorite questions to ask the bride and groom are how did they meet and what details are they most excited about on their wedding day?

Monica and Kerry “happened” to be at a colleagues after-work birthday get-together in June of 2014. ย After dinner, Kerry was leaving the partyย and Monica’s girlfriend told him to walk her to her car….ย (a whopping 5 feet away!) Theyย talked for hours, exchanged phone numbers, and the rest isย history!

I have to post Monica’s exact answer to what she was most excited about on her wedding day. ย Monica — “I’m excited about 3 things. One, of course, is the joining together of me and my dear friend, in God’s eyes, and with our closest loved ones rooting us on. The second is my dad walking me down the aisle. He is the model of what a Christian husband, father, and friend should be. Third is the Treasury, itself. The venue is amazing and magical! I feel like it chose US! So I cannot wait to see the transformation for our special day.”

ย Monica’s answers were so perfect. It was in that moment that I knew she was a bride who truly valued some of the most important aspects of her wedding day and that value shows throughย in her photographs. At this point I couldn’t wait for their Treasury on the Plaza wedding.ย Knowing the connection that Monica felt to her venue, Treasury on the Plaza, Iย wanted to make sure that the character and charm of the venue showed through in many of the photographs. From capturing the personalized decor, flowers, and the cake, to the architecture and design I wanted to highlight the aspects that made the Treasury and the Goode’s wedding unique.

As Monica and Kerry (I mean, Tiki) said their vows they did so with such genuine love and affection. Throughout the day I was able to capture so many of the important relationships in the couples life. During the vows, Monica’s personality and the love Kerry has for her shines through each of the photographs. The sheer joy shared between father and daughter as they embrace before the wedding ceremony is absolutely priceless. However, one of the most emotional parts of the receptionย was when Monica’s sorority girls surrounded her and serenadedย her. It was one of those moments where time froze and you could have heard a pin drop! It was so beautiful and emotional that even I cried.

There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. and Mrs. Goode choose the most appropriate hashtag of #GoodeLife2017 because when you’re surrounded by that much love and devotion you truly have a Goode Life. Congratulations to Monica and TIKI!
